About Lei
My name is Lei, and I run TikGadget. I am a web designer and media operator based in Japan.
I completed graduate-level studies in electrical engineering in Tokyo. During graduate school, my research focused on how the growing adoption of renewable energy and electric vehicles could affect power grids, using simulations and data analysis. My research was also published in an English-language academic journal, and I received an outstanding paper presentation award. The experience of comparing data and evaluating performance continues to shape the way I approach gadget reviews today.
After graduate school, I worked in the design and budget management departments of a major developer before going independent. Since then, I have launched and operated several web media sites, including TikGadget.
Today, I work with more than 90 manufacturers and distributors in Japan and overseas, covering smartphones, tablets, mini PCs, audio products, and other gadgets through hands-on reviews, comparison articles, and news coverage.
I also have experience producing press release articles commissioned by manufacturers, writing content for external media, preparing press release copy for services such as PR TIMES and @Press, and creating articles for CarMe.

Why I Started TikGadget
When I was in graduate school, products such as PlayStation VR and Microsoft HoloLens were beginning to bring new kinds of technology into everyday life. I was fascinated by the experiences that new devices and technologies could create. I also spent some time writing for a media outlet specializing in VR, which was one of my first opportunities to publish technology-related content.
After graduating, I joined a major developer, but I never lost the excitement I had felt about emerging technology as a student. I left the company after three years and began working independently as a web designer and media operator, launching and managing websites across a variety of fields, from gaming to finance.
Along the way, I had opportunities to connect with representatives from Chinese manufacturers and experience many newly released gadgets firsthand. The more products I used, the more I wanted to explain not only what appears on a specification sheet, but also what a product is actually like to use in everyday life. That idea led me to launch the gadget review site TikGadget in November 2020.

By combining my engineering background with my experience in web media, I try to go beyond simply introducing products. My goal is to explain the details people genuinely want to know before deciding whether to buy, as clearly and concretely as possible.
Review Policy
In hands-on reviews, I look beyond specifications and benchmark scores. I also pay close attention to factors that directly affect everyday use, including responsiveness, heat, portability, battery life, software quality, and overall usability.
Even when a product has been provided by a manufacturer, I do not limit a review to its strengths. I also try to describe any concerns, limitations, or points that potential buyers should be aware of as honestly as possible.
Specifications and figures published by manufacturers are treated as official specifications and are clearly distinguished from measurements obtained through my own testing. For areas that cannot be expressed easily through numbers, such as usability and handling, I describe what I experienced while actually using the product.
Main Testing Methods
I test products as part of everyday work and daily use to understand both their performance and practical usability. Depending on the product, I also run benchmarks and measurements, combining numerical results with real-world impressions to determine what kinds of users and use cases the product is best suited for.
| Product Category | Typical Testing |
|---|---|
| Mini PCs & PCs | I use benchmarks such as Cinebench and 3DMark to evaluate processing and graphics performance, while also testing web browsing, office work, video playback, and gaming. Depending on the model, I also check temperatures, operating noise, and performance stability under sustained load. |
| Smartphones & Tablets | In addition to benchmarks such as AnTuTu, I test app responsiveness, video playback, and gaming performance. I also consider display visibility and handling, and depending on the device, I may test camera performance, battery life, and charging time. |
| SSDs & Storage | I run storage benchmarks and copy real files such as photos and videos. Because transfer speeds can vary depending on the connected computer and USB standard, I also take the test device, connection standard, and cable into account when evaluating the results. |
| Monitors & Projectors | I connect PCs, game consoles, and other devices to check text readability, image quality, and motion clarity. I also look at practical factors such as installation, adjustment, menu operation, and the usability of available ports. |
For example, a mini PC's measured noise level can vary depending on the distance from the device and the ambient noise in the room. Likewise, an SSD may not reach its advertised maximum speed if the connected device does not support the required interface. To make results easier to interpret, I try to explain the relevant test settings and testing environment together with the measurements.
The exact tests vary depending on the product and its intended use. In each review, I distinguish between manufacturer-provided specifications, results confirmed through hands-on testing, and my own impressions based on actual use.
Representative Hands-on Reviews
Below are a few examples of my hands-on reviews. Depending on the product, I may use it extensively at my desk, take it outdoors, run benchmarks, or measure factors such as operating noise and battery life. The full review articles linked below are currently available in Japanese.

Editorial & Disclosure Policy
At TikGadget, I aim to provide information that reflects how products actually perform so that readers can make better-informed purchasing decisions. Rather than simply repeating specification sheets or providing surface-level introductions, I focus on explaining what I experienced in actual use, including both the strengths of a product and the areas that could be improved.
Some reviews and product articles on TikGadget involve products supplied by manufacturers, advertising, or affiliate programs. However, regardless of whether a product has been provided, the content and evaluation of each review are based on my own judgment.
I also avoid presenting only the positive side of a product. Whenever possible, I describe the limitations I noticed during actual use and points that may not suit every user.
News articles and product information articles are created based on official announcements, information supplied by manufacturers, and publicly available materials. Because this information reflects what is known at the time of publication, specifications, prices, and other details may change after a product is released. I make every effort to keep information accurate, but readers should also check official websites and product pages for the latest details.
If I discover an error in published content, I review the information and make corrections or additions as appropriate. I will continue working to provide gadget information that readers can rely on.
